Forever iconic.
2008 Topps Chrome is, in my opinion, the greatest modern-era card design ever made - and easily my favorite set of all time.
The Kobe and LeBron cards are the crown jewels. I’ve always loved that Topps made them cards 24 and 23 in the set - a perfect tribute to the rivalry that defined an era. Kobe’s captures the intensity and edge he brought every night, while LeBron’s immortalizes the iconic Chalk Toss that later inspired the Wingspan insert in Wemby’s Mercury set.
Topps produced just seven parallels:
Base, Refractor, Orange /499, XFractor /288, Gold /50, Red /5, and the Superfractor 1/1.
The Golds, Reds, and Supers in PSA 10 will probably always live in fantasy land for me. But owning matching PSA 10s of the others is still incredibly satisfying, especially given how low these Pop counts are.
