A new African story is on the horizon and I’m honored I get to tell it.
Gourd of the Sky is an animated short film Produced by Ranti Femi-Oyekola and Directed by the amazing @sameasdan , currently in development.
It is a visually rich, folklore-inspired journey told in colour, texture, and emotion, created for a new generation of African audiences.
At its heart, this is a story about a young girl navigating inheritance, expectation, and identity in a drought-stricken village and discovering that responsibility, courage, and leadership can look like her.
Through symbolic storytelling, we begin to reimagine the gourd not as something ordinary or overlooked, but as a powerful African symbol of legacy, renewal, and transformation. And at the centre of it all is a message for young African girls everywhere: you are not background characters you are forces of change.
It’s been a beautiful process bringing this world to life, and working with our director has been nothing short of inspiring. The vision, care, and artistry shaping this film is something truly special.
