At the age of 12, I became obsessed with these hoodies fully covered in camouflage colors I’ve never seen before. Once I started to research them and learned more about the owner of the brand, I was locked in.
Nigo’s cultural influence is undeniable. At the time, most called Bapesta’s fake AF1s, but those who knew—fell in love with the colorways because Nike played it pretty safe at the time.
On my way to Europe, I noticed Nigo had an upcoming exhibit at The Design Museum in London and bought tickets for the day after its opening. He planned to release a Nike collaboration on opening day at the museum followed by a global release online the next day. Knowing the lines would be crazy, and hype for this shoe was high, I had low expectations I would be lucky enough to grab a pair.
As I’m pullin’ up on the museum I see a few people standing by the museum shop, so I decided to shoot my shot.
To my surprise, my size 9 was one of two sizes left. Honestly purchasing Nigo’s first official AF1 at the opening of his museum exhibit has to be top 3 souvenirs I’ve ever got in my life.
