I keep coming back to New Mexico for many reasons, but one of the deepest is this: the people I’ve met here who feel, to me, inseparable from the land and the light.
There are some people with whom making images feels less like arranging a shoot and more like entering a shared frequency: a way of seeing, feeling, and listening that already exists between you. Chauné is one of those people for me. I’ve photographed her every time I’ve come here for years now, and each time it feels like returning not just to a person, but to a conversation with beauty, story, and place.
Some places become home because they allow you to come home to yourself. Some people do too. Maybe that’s what I’m always reaching for here: not just imagery but the rare feeling of being recognized by a place.
