It was a beautiful day on the beltline at the Atlanta Indie Market. It was my first time there and I’m so grateful to have been accepted as a vendor especially since I applied at the last minute. I almost fell for a vendor scam on eventbrite but luckily my bank caught onto the account I was sending a deposit to, and blocked it. I can explain more about that in another post, but I genuinely can’t believe the lengths scammers are going to these days. So much research needs to be done about every event/market promotion because more and more fake ones are posted daily to steal money from artists. Anyway, I had so much fun writing today and my heart is so full from all the beautiful stories shared with me. I’m looking forward to coming back, but I’m not sure when I’ll start writing on the street again. I’m having an open surgery on Thursday to remove cancer and although I’m sure it will all go well I know the recovery process will be long and hard. A month later I’ll have another outpatient surgery to fix my pelvic vein congestion and that should be a lot more bearable. It has been and it’s going to be a long year, but in the few months since my last surgery in February and becoming chronically ill for the majority of the year writing has been truly cathartic, challenging and formative. It feels so good to have found a medium of expression that feels like me. Familiar, and familial. Writing is the only thing I’ve always known. When spoken words fail me, I’m not empty handed in any battle because my pen forms every sentence for me. A question I get a lot lately is how I come up with words and sentences on the fly. The answer is that I listen to my intuition and stream of consciousness. I write what comes to mind first, and don’t worry about the rest. When you stress all the sentences, force yourself to find the perfect words you dampen the still small voice that knows everything about your soul. Anyway, I’m grateful for everyone that would support me on this journey and experience the beauty of words, reading and the privilege of literacy with me.
