“If” by rudyard kipling is one of the poems I was assigned to memorize in 6th grade. over the years, I found myself recalling different sections so often that I realized it’s become somewhat of a compass for me without even meaning for it to. as we got ready for sam to come into the world, I knew that so much of this poem is what I want for him to believe about himself & the world.

this picture is so special to me because a print of the poem is in the background. it feels so appropriate that my dad is standing in front of it - to me he represents the heart of it beautifully. as does benja. 🥹 this year, I have also gotten the privilege of seeing benja become sam’s dad. I feel so proud and at peace that Benja represents so much of what it means to be a good man and a good person. Sam has soooo much to look up to, and I do too ⭐️
