Write “EMBRACE IT” in the comments if you’ve ever noticed a mark showing up again and again in your work — and wondered what to do with it.

We’re inside Studio Raven for a sneak peek at something special.

Krista Harris is demoing her work and talking about something every abstract painter eventually has to reckon with — your visual voice. The marks that keep coming back. The ones that are you, whether you planned them or not.

It’s a lot like the way you walk, the way you talk, the way your handwriting looks on a page. It just comes out.

So the question is — do you lean into it, or do you pull away?

This is Elevating Abstract Painting with Krista Harris at Santa Fe Artists Gateway.

I love me some Krista Harris! She is the BEST! How many times do you ever get to hear "that same damn duck foot," after all.

I get this, but in a more general way. Having the idea of wanting to make bright art when I start and ending up making something dark and emotional with lots of unidentifiable layers/marks. Btw, do you work on multiple pieces at once, or stick to just one piece? I like seeing your process of making art 🙂
