John Hancock used a quill to scrawl his oversized signature on the Declaration of Independence. Presidents from Barack Obama to Lyndon Johnson have handed out pens used to sign landmark legislation. More recently, Donald Trump derides his predecessor, Joe Biden, as an “autopen president”.

Now, a pen in Texas could make electoral history with some believing it may decide the fate of a crucial Senate race, causing Trump to lose control of Congress.

Looking back at these, so many of these issues are ironically being vilified for holding people accountable.

There’s an unspoken rule to a lot of social situations where it’s improper or impolite to hold people accountable and that those who do are seen as problematic for drawing attention to it rather than ignoring it for the sake of social harmony. I’ve always found that so strange. If everyone thinks X is a bad person, and the harmony comes from appeasing someone at someone or everyone else’s expense, how is that harmony?

Honestly I think that’s what’s wrong with so much of society. Keeping quiet about wrong doing because it’s less energy to ignore it only makes the world a worse place to live. This is why London is a city where you can get abused on a train whilst everyone else minds their business. Some people would rather stay neutral to avoid conflict but conflict comes for us all, if you have the option to be neutral, it’s just not your turn yet. I get it, we’re all tired but it is just too exhausting to play these games when the prize isn’t even peace, it’s cowardice.

What do you think becomes of people who are emboldened to constantly do wrong without ever being held accountable or their behaviour even being acknowledged as wrong? You get Donald Trump, Andrew Tate, people who are confidently and openly terrible people.

And look, I know I’m autistic, sometimes my timing or delivery is off but I don’t see I’m often policed far more than the person who’s giving me something to call out. So yeah, maybe I do make things awkward but it’s because I refuse to absorb other people’s wrong doing and if that makes me the villain then so be it, let me be the villain for making life difficult for bad people.

US President Donald Trump’s new press secretary Katie Zacharia legal credentials are being questioned after she said she passed the bar exam when she moved to China.

Foreign nationals cannot sit China’s bar exam and California’s state bar told US media that it had no record of her holding a licence.
