TANZANIA!!
12 days and there were so many moments where I found myself looking around and thinking, “I love this life.”
Courts full of kids screaming with excitement over a volleyball. Coaches from different corners of the world sharing ideas, stories, and laughter. People united by a shared belief that sport can create opportunities far beyond the court. I’ve spent most of my life around this game, but I’ve never experienced volleyball quite like this.
There were moments in Tanzania when I genuinely felt overwhelmed by the amount of love in the space. Watching kids sprint onto the court with huge smiles. Seeing them celebrate each other’s successes. Feeling how much they valued every opportunity to learn, play, and connect. More than once, I caught myself fighting back tears of joy.
All these moments reminded me that joy has very little to do with your situation and everything to do with perspective. Passion doesn’t depend on circumstance. And connection doesn’t require a common language.
Some of my favorite memories weren’t even about volleyball. They were the conversations after training. The bus rides. The shared meals. The friendships formed with people I had known for only days but somehow felt like I’d known forever.
The people I met on this trip inspired me in ways I wasn’t expecting. The coaches, leaders, volunteers, and community members who pour so much of themselves into creating opportunities for others challenged me to think bigger about the impact we can have when we lead with service.
As athletes, we spend so much time chasing results, achievements, and milestones. This trip reminded me that sometimes the most important thing sport gives us is each other. I came to Tanzania hoping to make a difference, but the biggest difference was made on me.
What a great reminder of why I love this sport so much. The world now feels a little bit smaller and my heart definitely feels a whole lot bigger ❤️🔥
