πWhat's attractive isn't just the initial intensity of dates, the excitement of the first few months, or the shared visions for the future.
What's important is the present, acting with respect and emotional maturity during difficult times as the relationship grows in real life.
That someone takes responsibility for working on themselves in order to care for, provide, respect and love the other person.
That they want to understand what you feel, not minimize it, ignore it, or invalidate it for their own comfort. Communicate before not after.
That they are clear about their intentions from the beginning and don't play with your emotions or time. Let them choose you again and show it with consistent actions, not promises. No lies.
That there is consistency between what they say and what they do. They don't pretend to be someone they're not to take advantage of you without giving anything in return.
That they can self-regulate before reacting impulsively and hurting you, and that their apologies demonstrate a change in the way they treat you.
That they know how to make amends when they make a mistake, without justifying themselves or shifting responsibility for their actions.
Don't disappear when the situation and conversation become challenging; real life isn't 365 perfect pink as social media.
That's what builds a healthy, strong, and stable relationship. It's emotional, physical, and mental security.
Emotional maturity isn't a romantic trait. It's a capacity that develops with emotional intelligence and self-love, when you've healed your wounds in therapy. If you haven't, you should go.
