Baby's first painting experience... and yes, it was completely taste-safe!

She was only a few months old when I introduced her to painting for the very first time. At this age, babies explore the world with all of their senses—including their mouths—so I wanted to create something that was both fun and safe.

I simply mixed plain Greek yoghurt with a small amount of food-grade food colouring to make edible paint. No complicated ingredients, no hours of preparation... just a simple activity that any busy parent or nanny could put together in a few minutes.

And she absolutely loved it.

To us, it might look like a messy afternoon...

But to a baby's brain, it's so much more.
- Exploring new textures
- Building brain connections
- Strengthening little hands
- Developing hand-eye coordination
- Encouraging curiosity and confidence

This is exactly what Cognitive Garden is all about.

Helping parents and caregivers create meaningful moments that don't require expensive toys or endless preparation—just simple, intentional play that supports healthy development.

Because the best learning often begins with the simplest experiences.

⏱️ Prep time: 2 minutes
👶 Age: 6+ months (when developmentally ready and always supervised)
🧠 Skills: Sensory play • Fine motor • Hand-eye coordination • Curiosity

**A little note:** If you prefer not to use food colouring, you can easily create natural colours instead. Try blending spinach for green, strawberries for pink, blueberries for purple, beetroot for red, or a pinch of turmeric for yellow. The colours may be softer, but they're just as fun for little hands to explore!
