The plan was to “just get a sweat going.” The reality? 58 minutes in Zone 5.
I just got back from 16 days of travel. Even if you stay disciplined in hotel gyms, it is impossible to replicate your peak training intensity while living out of a suitcase—especially when you add a massive time change from Florida to the mix.
My conscious mind told me to ease into it. But my trained instinct completely took over the second I hit the water.
Sustaining Zone 5 for nearly an hour right after a long trip is objective proof of two things:
1. Deep cardiovascular conditioning doesn’t vanish just because you step out of your environment for a few weeks.
2. When you train your mindset to remove the internal governor, your baseline capacity becomes higher than most people’s maximum limits.
The workplace is a competition, and so is the athletic field. You can’t afford to lose your edge every time you travel or get thrown out of your routine.
