Kabar itu diumumkan pada Selasa (27/10/2026) oleh Direktorat Intelijen Utama Kementerian Pertahanan Ukraina (HUR), sebagaimana diberitakan Kompas.com. Pria kelahiran 22 Mei 1978 yang terakhir menetap di Surabaya ini pernah menjadi sopir taksi di Jakarta, manajer di perusahaan pertanian, hingga bekerja di Amerika Serikat sehingga bisa berbahasa Inggris. Perekrut Rusia disebut mendapatkan namanya dari CV yang ia sebar saat berburu kerja, lalu menawarkan penghasilan tinggi hingga ia terbang ke Moskwa. Kontrak dinas militer berdurasi setahun kemudian ia teken di Korolyov, kota tak jauh dari Moskwa, pada 19 April 2026.
Ditempatkan di posisi penembak senapan mesin, pria itu hanya digembleng kurang lebih satu setengah minggu di pusat latihan sekitar Voronezh. Awal Mei, ia sudah diberangkatkan ke wilayah pendudukan Rusia di Ukraina, lalu tewas di kawasan Donetsk ketika pasukan Rusia mencoba merangsek dari Zelena Dolyna ke arah Novoselivka dan Drobysheve. Kasus ini menambah panjang daftar rekrutan asing Moskwa; otoritas Ukraina mencatat hampir 46.000 orang dari 151 negara telah menandatangani perjanjian dinas dengan Kementerian Pertahanan Rusia. Sebelumnya, WNI lain bernama Rendi Apriyanto (30) juga dikabarkan tewas pada September, padahal ia mengaku kepada keluarga direkrut untuk urusan logistik. Hingga kini, rincian perekrutan dan kematian Taufiq, termasuk dugaan bahwa ia tergiur janji uang mudah, masih bersumber dari klaim HUR.
