Going to Grandmaβs (Marathon) was quite a great thing! π§³π΅π»π
Last fall we raced to get in on the exclusive Grandmaβs Marathon in Duluth Minnesota. Whoβd have known I was going to endure yet another knee surgery or 2, then the barbell drop on my very foot, etc.. In fact, in London, I/we considered dropping this race - if not for the 50th celebration AND our awesome racing Paddywagon!
Embarked Minneapolis early and headed to the 90s Nickelodeon nostalgic Mall of America. First we feasted on fish from an Indian Reservation then we got to ride a roller coaster inside the Mall! Walked the upper parts of the Mighty Missisppi River with amazing views along the Twin Cities then ghosted by anything paranormal on the ghost tour.
Checked into a college dorm and checked out a great expo for such a small city but big race! Itβs called Grandmaβs for the restaurant at the finish..and so many people traveled far and wide to go to Grandmaβs!
Thankfully I woke up centered and confidant to just follow my body. If I make it 10 miles and walk to a drop off point, that would still work to gain course access and gain memories. The race started and I decided to not even peek at my watch - I had even removed my chip to not be tempted. Just enjoy it while you can! At mile 10 I started feeling like I might run the full - but knowing what I do about knee rehab, it wasnβt worth the huge push for the ego to complete another full so soon. I had a fantastic jaunt when I stopped my watch at mile 13 and felt proud to drop out. The finishers area was festive and a pleasant to stretch and follow along everyoneβs finish. After the race we headed back out to the lakefront of Lake Superior to enjoy Princeβs Band and a neat drone show!!
The accumulation of excitement has us sleeping in and only afforded a small detour to Jay Cooke State Park. We took some pictures on the swinging bridge and then made one last bakery stop! Wheels were up pretty quick but these were some long-lasting memories at Grandmaβs. Back to the Texas heat, humidity, and how that will help when weβre treated to milder temps higher in the country!
