From Kandersteg, @kenobi.bobi and I journeyed to Zermatt, one of the world’s most iconic mountain villages. We took the funicular up Sunnega and spent more than three hours hiking down, with the Matterhorn standing watch in the distance. Along the way, we picked up walking sticks from the mountainside and let nature set the pace.
Zermatt holds a special place in my heart. I learned to ski here as a young girl, and returning decades later to hike these trails with my youngest son felt like life coming full circle. Sometimes the most meaningful moments aren’t the conversations but the shared silences, the steady footsteps, and the awe of standing together in a place that makes you feel small in the best possible way.
Fun fact: The Matterhorn’s dramatic peak inspired Walt Disney’s design of the Matterhorn Bobsleds, the first tubular steel roller coaster ever built.
Some places are bucket-list destinations. Others become part of your story. ❤️🏔️
