Stop avoiding things your dog deems stressful or scary right off the bat. When you continue avoiding it reinforces this idea that whatever it is is scary and flight is the best option.
Instead make sure you have these down:
1. Ensure you have a solid bond and proper way to communicate with your dog.
2. Can you ask them to do things easily in a low distraction environment?
3. Does your dog trust your guidance even when there is pressure involved?
4. Gradually increase distractions and work towards moving through things they are nervous about.
5. Show them something isn’t scary by walking through it together first.
6. Properly time leash pressure, release of leash pressure, and rewards.
