Today marks the first wedding anniversary of Lauren Sánchez and Jeff P. Bezos, the founder of Amazon. The couple married a year ago in Venice, a setting long associated with ceremony, the display of wealth, and the historical staging of power.
Their three-day wedding celebrations quickly became a controversial event for the city, attracting widespread protests and intense media attention, and reigniting ongoing debates about Venice’s struggle with overtourism and the persistent use of the city as a consumable image.
During those days, I followed their wedding celebrations for international media.
On the final evening, I waited for nearly four hours on the Accademia Bridge to capture their wedding parade through a vedutista approach, echoing the style of eighteenth-century painters who transformed the city into a reproducible image.
From that experience came the idea of creating, as an anniversary gift, a 500-piece art puzzle that translates this moment into a collectible and participatory object. Jeff P. Bezos, King of Amazon; Wedding Parade in Canal Grande, 2025 features the newly married couple accompanied by an entourage of private security, police, and paparazzi.
The work situates a contemporary spectacle within a historical framework, blurring the line between documentation and invention while inviting viewers to reconstruct the image piece by piece.
