🎺🌙 Nini Rosso and Willy Brezza – Il Silenzio
Nini Rosso – trumpet 🎺
Orchestra – arranged and conducted by Willy Brezza
•
According to the Italian-language encyclopedia entry on the song, this melody was recorded after a concert for soldiers in Rome. Nini Rosso played it at the PalaEur before that audience, with a spoken part, and the reaction, the entry says, was explosive. Per Hit Parade Italia, it was the conductor Willy Brezza who turned the bugle call into a romantic ballad, later entrusted to Rosso's trumpet. The recording has that spoken part later, outside this excerpt: it is a conscript's goodnight to his faraway girlfriend. Released in Italy on the Sprint label, the record reached first place there and in Germany in 1965, and on the German market it sold over two million copies. In Slovakia, the club Spartak Trnava plays the song before every home game.
•
Listen again and catch the moment when the orchestra comes in beneath the trumpet: the trumpet drops out for a moment and soon starts again with the same notes as the opening, now over an accompaniment that never stops until the end of the excerpt. Later on, the trumpet reaches the highest note of this clip without getting any louder.

The trumpeter on the record is Nini Rosso, born in Turin, who as a young man fought in the Italian resistance during the Second World War. Before becoming a light music soloist, he played in conductor Cinico Angelini's orchestra. In the musical comedies of Italian cinema from that era, the musicarelli, he was usually cast as a trumpeter. In Japan, where the song was a big hit, he went on several tours. And he even brought his ensemble to Piero Angela's science program La macchina meravigliosa, in the episode about the ear.

Ok ok, they do look very nice on her. She didn’t go crazy with them. But I truly think she was perfect without them too. She’s a good looking lady and I hope she stops and doesn’t morph into a Shekinah….
