Today is more than just a date on the calendar.
As someone who is half Congolese, with my roots tracing back to Kasai through my mother, this day carries a special place in my heart.
On June 30, 1960, the Democratic Republic of the Congo reclaimed its independence and took its place among the free nations of the world. Sixty-six years later, we honor the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of those who fought for that freedom.
Today, I celebrate the beauty of our people, our culture, our strength, and the hope that future generations will inherit a nation that continues to rise.
Happy Independence Day to every Congolese, at home and across the diaspora.
