“The Replacement Killers” (1998) director: Antoine Fugua. During my Portuguese years (1992-1998) I recorded a little micro budget tune in Lisbon called “Escape From The City Of Angels” which featured gifted São Toméan singer Marta Dias. With a key introduction in L.A. and a lot of luck, the song ended up in the soundtrack of Columbia Pictures’ feature film, The Replacement Killers by @antoinefuqua (director of @michaelmovie and Training Day) starring award-winning actors @mirasorvino @chowyunfat and Clifton Collins Jr aka @mrwupass (and also featured Danny Trejo, Michael Rooker, Terrence Wei, etc). The label I was involved with at the time declined to further promote Escape to coincide with the movie release, (two years after the song’s initial release) calling the movie a ‘flop’. The movie is in fact a highly underrated masterpiece by an incredible talent pool and the particular scene in which our song appears was filmed in the historical, now dufunct Belmont Subway tunnel (near 1304 West 2nd Street in Downtown Los Angeles). Song co-produced by Joe Fossard @joe16tons with bass by Francisco Rebelo @koochibass, sax by Paulo Muiños, trumpet by Nuno Reis [][][] #goldenagehiphop #losangeles #eastlos #movie #actionmovie
