The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art is one of my favorite places in western Mass. There are three galleries so it's a very manageable museum, with one showing a themed exhibit of Eric Carle's work from the permanent collection and the other 2 devoted to other illustrators. This time the Carle display was food themed, which I loved. (1,2,3) I'm trying to find a copy of the out of print book "The Long-haired Donkey" by William Papas because I love this drawing (4). The second gallery had an exhibit of the exquisite ink drawings by Robert Lawson for the classic "Ferdinand the Bull" (5,6,7,8) and the last gallery had gorgeous watercolors by Jerry Pinkney. We loved the images in his edition of "Twinkle, Twinkle" so much (9) that we bought a used copy of this out-of-print book in the gift shop (very grateful that they had one!) And in the lobby was this magical bronze sculpture based on Leo Lionni's book "Parallel Botany" (10) which reminded me of some of Shawn Tan's landscapes.

I grew up with Ferdinand and love seeing Robert Lawson’s prints!
