Knitting, embroidery, the occasional dog and cat for good measure. Also some pictures of trees and rocks because who doesn't love trees and rocks?

Another perfect day for hiking, this time up Mt Holyoak. Wish I could do this everyday.

Hiked to the top of Mt Norwottuck with my beautiful sister on this perfect autumn day. Last time I was here there was a heat index of 103 and let me tell you, I vastly prefer hiking in the mid 60 degree range. Our descent was a little more intense since we went via the Horse Caves (pic 3 and 4) and the trail goes right through that massive rock pile. But then you link up with the very relaxing Robert Frost trail which feels like a treat after scrambling through rocks. taken in Mt. Norwottuck Summit - 1,106 ft by @kremenwait

I don't crochet very often (or very confidently) but sometimes the urge to make a tiny sea turtle is too strong to resist.

I get a weekly organic farm box from Arbor Farms and a few people have asked about it, so I thought I'd share a photo of this week's contents, all of which come from local organic farms. From the top we have: carrots, cherry tomatoes, rainbow chard, blueberries, red leaf lettuce, broccoli, cantaloupe, corn and a massive sweet onion.
Thanks to this box we've been eating well and feeling safe during the cyclospora outbreak. by @kremenwait

Finished this hat out of super soft @woolfolk_yarn Fleck. The pattern is "frais" by @aliciaplums and there are lovely details like a doubled brim and easy slip stitch texture. It'll be on display @spunannarbor soon!

The heatwave finally broke so my sister and I hiked up Mount Holyoak which has beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. It's a steep trail and I was very glad we had hiking poles. As I am a mosquito magnet, I also appreciated the head net (just call me ghost!) Feeling so lucky to get to spend some time with my beautiful sister. by @kremenwait

14 mile ride from Northampton to Haydenville with a stop on the way back at the Florence Pie Bar for 3 kinds of pie: a sundried tomato white bean handpie, a slice of apple blackberry crumb and a slice of lemon Shaker. All were excellent but the lemon Shaker was out of this world. I'm now digging through recipes to pick one to make when we get home.

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art is one of my favorite places in western Mass. There are three galleries so it's a very manageable museum, with one showing a themed exhibit of Eric Carle's work from the permanent collection and the other 2 devoted to other illustrators. This time the Carle display was food themed, which I loved. (1,2,3) I'm trying to find a copy of the out of print book "The Long-haired Donkey" by William Papas because I love this drawing (4). The second gallery had an exhibit of the exquisite ink drawings by Robert Lawson for the classic "Ferdinand the Bull" (5,6,7,8) and the last gallery had gorgeous watercolors by Jerry Pinkney. We loved the images in his edition of "Twinkle, Twinkle" so much (9) that we bought a used copy of this out-of-print book in the gift shop (very grateful that they had one!) And in the lobby was this magical bronze sculpture based on Leo Lionni's book "Parallel Botany" (10) which reminded me of some of Shawn Tan's landscapes.

I made this little baby sweater, the Gumnut Cardigan, and it reminded me of how satisfying it is to knit for tiny people. It only took about a week to make and I got to try out a new-to-me yarn, @blueskyfibers Organic Cotton Sport. It's a terrific cotton yarn, pliable and plush, without the stiffness of some cottons, and now I'm dreaming of what I'll make with it next (maybe something for myself which will take a lot more than a week). This little cardigan has joined the cuteness gang, hanging on the clothes line, at @spunannarbor
