Homebrew review time!
So I set out to make a clear, crisp, sessionable pale ale with lemonbalm and elderflower.
As you can see, what I made was not pale or clear! Nor was the abv sessionable, it's come out at around 8%. I chose hops to enhance the lemon flavour from the lemon balm, which sadly hasn't really come through. It does however have a strong elderflower flavour and a dryness that makes it very morish.
I'm disappointed with how this came out, as it isn't what I wanted. I'd use more hops, more lemon balm, more finnings and different malts. It also has a definite homebrew twang that I blame the heatwave for as it was doing it's thing during the stupid 30 something degrees weather.
But it isnt awful, it's drinkable, it dissappears far too quick. And the elderflower is very prominent. A successful failure!
I've named this one, Tilly The Elder 🐈‍⬛️ after my mummy cat we adopted earlier in the year 🐈‍⬛️
Cheers everyone 🍻🍻🍻

Love that you tried, you’ve learnt and you still made a decent beer! Anything elderflower is an immediate success in my eyes, can’t get enough of the stuff 😂 cheers gurl, keep them coming 💪🏼

Nice! Sounds like a tasty beer, even if it came out a heavier hitter than you expected. These things happen. FWIW, before I had a temp-controlled chest freezer for fermentation, I’d put my carboy in a large garbage bag and stick ice packs inside the bag — voila, a jacketed fermenter of sorts!🍻

Good job Grace, maybe reduce the boil temp to lighten the colour? And check the grain bill - the best thing about homebrewing is that you’ve done it all yourself (with some help from the yeast!) - good for you
