🎬 The answer is… Mike Oldfield – Tubular Bells.
If you guessed it, give yourself a pat on the back. This week’s sample came from one of the most recognizable pieces of music ever recorded.
A few crazy facts:
🎹 Mike Oldfield was only 19 years old when he recorded Tubular Bells, playing more than 20 different instruments himself.
💿 It was the very first album ever released by Virgin Records, helping launch what would become one of the biggest record labels in the world.
😱 While the album was already gaining attention, everything changed when the haunting opening theme was used in The Exorcist (1973). Director William Friedkin stumbled across the record while searching for music, and those chilling piano notes became forever linked with one of the greatest horror films ever made. Ironically, only a small portion of the nearly 50-minute composition appears in the movie, yet it completely transformed the song’s legacy. (en.wikipedia.org)
That’s what makes sampling so incredible. Sometimes a few seconds of music can become part of pop culture forever.
