This week on RAW Flips, I accidentally went down a rabbit hole and I am glad I did.I put on Enter the Dragon while I was in the studio, and instead of watching the movie, I could not stop listening to the soundtrack. The mix of classic kung fu film scores and gritty seventies soul has a feeling that is impossible to ignore. That inspired this week’s beat.Instead of digging through records for the perfect sample, I challenged myself to create one from scratch. I built it one layer at a time until it felt like it belonged in a forgotten movie from the seventies. Then I loaded everything into the Akai MPC One G2, chopped it up, and let the music take over. This ended up being one of my favorite episodes of RAW Flips because it proves that sometimes the best samples are not found. They are created.šŸŽ„ The full episode is live on YouTube right now. Hit the link in my bio and watch the entire process from start to finish. When you are done, let me know what movie score, television theme, or soundtrack I should flip next. I read every comment. If you came over from Instagram, leave a comment on the YouTube video so I know you made the trip. It really helps the channel grow.Thank you for all the support. I appreciate every one of you.šŸ”„ Leave me a fire emoji if you are rocking with this one.#makingbeats #akaipro #akaimpc #choppingsamples #boombapbeats by @robviktum

This week I tackled a TV theme that I’ve probably tried to flip a dozen different times over the years. The Brady Bunch theme is deceptively difficult. It’s packed with vocals, harmonies, and little musical moments happening all over the place. Every previous attempt ended the same way… I got frustrated, said ā€œforget it,ā€ and moved on to something else.Today, I finally cracked it using my current weapon of choice the @akai_pro MPC One G2I honestly think this might be the best TV Theme Flip I’ve done to date, and I can’t wait to hear what you think.šŸ”„ If you enjoy this one, help me get it in front of more people. Share it to your story, send it to your group chats, DM it to a friend, or tag someone who grew up watching The Brady Bunch. Every share helps this series reach new people. As always… leave me a šŸ”„ if you’re rocking with this one!#makingbeats #akaipro #akaimpc #choppingsamples #boombapbeats by @robviktum

šŸŽÆ Time for the answer to Guess The Sample! This week’s sample came from ā€œPlease Don’t Go Girlā€ by New Kids on the Block. If this one had you scratching your head… mission accomplished. šŸ˜…A few interesting facts:šŸŽ¤ ā€œPlease Don’t Go Girlā€ was written and produced by Maurice Starr, the same producer who created New Edition before launching New Kids on the Block. (Wikipedia)šŸŽ™ļø While many people associate NKOTB with Jordan Knight’s vocals, the majority of the lead on this song is actually sung by Joey McIntyre, with Jordan Knight sharing lead vocals and Danny Wood providing the spoken intro. (Wikipedia)šŸ“ˆ The song became the group’s first Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Its slow climb up the charts helped ignite ā€œNKOTB Maniaā€ and set the stage for a run that included five Top 10 singles from Hangin’ Tough. (Wikipedia)šŸŒŽ At their peak, New Kids on the Block sold tens of millions of records worldwide, packed arenas across the globe, and essentially created the modern blueprint for the boy-band phenomenon that would later be followed by groups like Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC. (TV Insider)If you guessed it… salute. šŸ‘If you missed it this week, don’t worry—you’ll get another shot next Sunday. Guess The Sample is back with another challenge, and I promise it won’t get any easier. 😈See y’all next week! šŸ‘Š#makingbeats #akaipro #akaimpc #choppingsamples #boombapbeats by @robviktum

🚨 GUESS THE SAMPLE 🚨LEVEL: IMPOSSIBLE šŸ’€I decided to make this one hurt a little. This week’s sample came from a song that was absolutely everywhere when it was released… but somehow seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth. Most people remember the group. Very few remember this record.šŸ” Hints:• Released in the late ā€˜80s.• Performed by a group of five.• The song reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.• The group became one of the biggest pop phenomena in music history.• This wasn’t their biggest hit… but it helped launch an empire.• The production leans heavily on keyboards and layered harmonies.• The song title is something almost everyone has said at least once in their life.• This group sold out arenas long before social media existed.😈 A few curveballs…• No guitars are carrying the melody.• It isn’t a one-hit wonder.• The sample isn’t from the part most people would immediately recognize.• You may spend more time looking in R&B crates than pop bins… and still come up empty.Think you know it?Drop your guess below. No editing your answer after someone gets it right. šŸ‘‡šŸ”„#makingbeats #akaipro #akaimpc #choppingsamples #boombapbeats by @robviktum

Just got off work and went straight to the studio. I was completely exhausted, but sometimes those sessions end up producing the best beats. This is a brand new episode of RAW Flips, and I documented the entire process from start to finish.Soon I’ll show the full process of how I create my own sample material before I ever chop it into a beat. That’s a whole different rabbit hole. Today, I just wanted to make something that knocked. If you’ve been following this journey, thank you. Building this YouTube channel one video at a time has been a challenge, but I’m committed to showing the real process—the wins, the struggles, and everything in between.šŸŽ„ The full beat-making session is live on YouTube now. The link is in my bio. Go watch the full video, and if you’re rocking with it, leave a comment so I know you came from Instagram. It really helps the channel grow.See y’all over there. šŸ‘ŠšŸ”„ Leave me a fire emoji if you’re rocking with this one.#makingbeats #akaipro #akaimpc #choppingsamples #boombapbeats by @robviktum

🚨 TV Theme Flips: Season 2 continues! 🚨This week I took on the classic I Dream of Jeannie theme… and flipped it into something that definitely wasn’t playing on NBC in the ’60s. 😤Of course I made this one entirely on the @akai_pro MPC One G2. There’s just something about taking an iconic melody everybody knows and giving it a completely different attitude.A few cool facts:• I Dream of Jeannie originally aired from 1965–1970 and starred Barbara Eden as Jeannie and Larry Hagman as Major Nelson. (Wikipedia)• The famous theme everyone remembers wasn’t actually used until Season 2. Season 1 had a completely different jazz-inspired theme. (Wikipedia)• The unforgettable version of the theme was composed by Hugo Montenegro, and its catchy melody has even been sampled in hip hop over the years. (Wikipedia)Did I do this TV classic justice? Leave me a šŸ”„ if you’re rocking with it, and let me know what TV theme I should flip next!#makingbeats #akaipro #akaimpc #choppingsamples #boombapbeats by @robviktum

🚨 ANSWER TIME! 🚨This week’s Guess The Sample was…Frank Ricotti – ā€œVibesā€ šŸŽ¹If you guessed it, salute. 🫔 This one definitely earned its Producer level rating.A few cool facts:• ā€œVibesā€ comes from the 1981 Bruton Music library album Vibes, a collection built around Frank Ricotti’s incredible vibraphone playing. Like most Bruton records, it wasn’t made for the public. It was produced as library music for television, film, documentaries, and radio.• Frank Ricotti is one of Britain’s most respected jazz vibraphonists and percussionists. Throughout his career he’s recorded with artists including Amy Winehouse, Tina Turner, Mark Knopfler, Freddie Mercury, Oasis, and many more.• Bruton Music has become one of the most legendary library music catalogs in history. Since the late ’70s, its records have become a goldmine for producers looking for unique samples, with composers like Alan Hawkshaw, Brian Bennett, Francis Monkman, Steve Gray, and Frank Ricotti helping define the sound of the label.• Original Bruton LPs have become highly collectible because of their outstanding musicianship, pristine recordings, and endless sample potential.Congratulations to everyone who figured this one out! Every week I try to dig a little deeper into the crates and make these a little tougher.šŸ”„ Leave me a fire emoji if you got it, and I’ll see you next week for another Guess The Sample.#makingbeats #akaipro #akaimpc #choppingsamples #boombapbeats by @robviktum

šŸ“ŗ TV Theme Flips is BACK… Season 2 starts NOW.There were way too many classic TV themes left untouched, so it was only right to bring this series back. It won’t be every week, but when it shows up, we’re digging into some of the most iconic themes ever made. This week I flipped Pee-wee’s Playhouse… and somehow it came out harder than… you know what… let’s change the subject. šŸ˜‚This beat was made entirely on the MPC One Gen 2 from @akai_pro , and I’m looking forward to putting this machine through its paces all season long.If you’re rocking with the return of Flipping TV Theme Songs, leave me a šŸ”„ in the comments! Please hit that like button, share this one with someone who grew up watching Pee-wee, and help me get Season 2 off to a strong start.#makingbeats #akaipro #akaimpc #choppingsamples #boombapbeats by @robviktum

šŸŽ¬ The answer is… Mike Oldfield – Tubular Bells. If you guessed it, give yourself a pat on the back. This week’s sample came from one of the most recognizable pieces of music ever recorded.A few crazy facts:šŸŽ¹ Mike Oldfield was only 19 years old when he recorded Tubular Bells, playing more than 20 different instruments himself.šŸ’æ It was the very first album ever released by Virgin Records, helping launch what would become one of the biggest record labels in the world.😱 While the album was already gaining attention, everything changed when the haunting opening theme was used in The Exorcist (1973). Director William Friedkin stumbled across the record while searching for music, and those chilling piano notes became forever linked with one of the greatest horror films ever made. Ironically, only a small portion of the nearly 50-minute composition appears in the movie, yet it completely transformed the song’s legacy. (en.wikipedia.org)That’s what makes sampling so incredible. Sometimes a few seconds of music can become part of pop culture forever.šŸ”„ Leave me a šŸ”„ if you got it right, and let me know what you want to hear in the next Guess The Sample.#makingbeats #akaipro #akaimpc #choppingsamples #boombapbeats by @robviktum
