After another year with Pepperdine Graphic Media, it was an honor to be named the All-Around Section Editor of the Year by my peers and advisers.
During my junior year, I was on PGM’s senior leadership team, serving as the Sports Editor throughout the entire year. This was a big role to step into, as it required lots of work and dedication to rebuilding a section and re-establishing positive and healthy relationships with Pepperdine Athletics’ NCAA Division I Department.
With the successful repair of these professional relationships, I turned to building a team of almost exclusively brand new writers for the sports section. Through hands-on training, genuine conversations, and deep connections, each of my writers stayed on the team for an entire year, growing in their own skills while also progressing into bigger positions of responsibility within our organization.
Establishing these relationships with both Athletics and my team was crucial to the success our section showed throughout the year. We advocated for two sport front covers of our monthly print editions and consistently published new articles weekly, allowing us to spotlight the variety of sports in our local areas.
Stories from our section were also named as award winners at national conventions. A story I authored earlier this year about the historic start boosting the Pepperdine Women’s Basketball team won sixth place for Best Sports Reporting at the Associated Collegiate Press at their spring convention.
It was an honor to serve as the Graphic’s Sports Editor this year. I am excited to finish my final year at Pepperdine with this organization!
