Gris-Gris in New Orleans quickly became my favorite restaurant for so many reasons.

We were lucky enough to sit in the open bar area overlooking the kitchen. That concept was so unique to me. We were able to watch a well-oiled machine churn out amazing food. Every single member of the staff made our time there absolutely memorable—an experience we’ll never forget.

The food… holy cow, the food was amazing. It’s inspirational. Chef Eric Cook’s menu had everything I could ever want in a restaurant. I bought his cookbook, Modern Creole, before we even left. I’ve cooked many of his recipes, and they’ve all been incredible.

Chef Cook’s kindness was also evident when Becky reached out to ask if he would sign a cookbook for me as a surprise. That’s another story, but Chef replied quickly and graciously, signed the book, wrote a wonderful message, and sent it out without hesitation.

We were excited to visit again at the beginning of August, but today we learned they will be closing their doors at the end of July. On a selfish note, I’m bummed we won’t be able to sit at that bar and enjoy that incredible food again.

More importantly, I hope Chef Cook and his family, the wonderful staff, and everyone associated with Gris-Gris move on to even bigger and better things. You all deserve it.

Thank you for the memories, the inspiration, and the unforgettable meals.

I am so saddened to hear this. My favorite gumbo in New Orleans. Gris-Gris is my first stop when I fly into town. (I am a tourist.) I can’t believe Bobby Flay beat you. The judges got it wrong!! It seems that Gordon Ramsay is maybe as big a fan as I am. I was dining on your food before either of those guys made a phone call. I can’t wait to see your next move. I’m sure it will be awesome. It’s not an easy industry, the restaurant business. I’m rooting for you. You are so talented. 🥣

I hate to hear that. It’s been on my list of places to visit on my next trip to NO. Chef Cook is such a nice guy. I’m already planning to be at the Bright Star’s Taste of New Orleans when he comes back to cook in Alabama.

That’s bittersweet. I’m glad you got to find such a great place. Best of luck to them.
