It’s always such a delightful every year to go eat @emcthecook recipes at @brightstar1907. I think this was our 6th year in a row to attend and we always leave with a smile. We brought the grandparents peanut pie home to enjoy for watching the baby.

The double cut pork chop featured a blueberry au jus that gave this southern meal entree gave this nice summer twist that we were talking about the whole way home.

🌙✨Switching gears from our regular show- to Adults Only! ‼️

Tonight on After Dark, I sit down with world-renowned Chef and United States Marine veteran Eric Cook @emcthecook , the mammoth force behind Gris-Gris @grisgrisnola and one of the most respected voices in New Orleans cuisine.

Chef Cook’s journey is one of service, perseverance, and passion — from his years as a Marine to becoming a nationally recognized chef who has helped shape the story of modern New Orleans dining. His restaurants, his leadership, and his commitment to this city have left a lasting mark on our culture.

As we celebrate this conversation, we also have to acknowledge the recent news that Eric has made the difficult decision to close Gris-Gris. While this wasn’t the focus of our episode, it is a moment that deserves reflection.

The closing of a beloved New Orleans restaurant is more than the loss of a dining room — it is a reminder of the immense challenges facing the independent restaurants, chefs, and small businesses that help make this city unlike anywhere else in the world.

Chef Eric Cook’s story is one of resilience, and his contributions to New Orleans will not be defined by one closing chapter, but by the legacy he has built and the lives he has impacted.

Join us for an honest conversation with a chef, a veteran, and a true ambassador for New Orleans.

And a special thanks to Dat Dog @datdogus on Magazine Street @magazinestreet and Mockly- booze-free booze! @drinkmockly

Overruled Rewind is bringing back another unforgettable conversation from the Overruled Podcast.

Chef Eric Cook shares why the best New Orleans food isn't about being complicated. It's about creating dishes that spark conversation, bring back memories, and make people feel at home. That's the heart of Cajun and Creole cuisine, where every meal has a story to tell, and every bite is rooted in hospitality.

As many of you know, Gris-Gris is sadly preparing to close its doors. If you've never had the chance to experience one of Chef Eric Cook's incredible restaurants, there's still time. Stop in, enjoy an unforgettable meal, and celebrate the team that has made New Orleans restaurants and the city's vibrant food scene so special.

We're wishing Chef Eric and the entire Gris-Gris staff nothing but success in whatever comes next. Thank you for the memories, the hospitality, and the amazing food you've shared with our community.

Gris-Gris in New Orleans quickly became my favorite restaurant for so many reasons.

We were lucky enough to sit in the open bar area overlooking the kitchen. That concept was so unique to me. We were able to watch a well-oiled machine churn out amazing food. Every single member of the staff made our time there absolutely memorable—an experience we’ll never forget.

The food… holy cow, the food was amazing. It’s inspirational. Chef Eric Cook’s menu had everything I could ever want in a restaurant. I bought his cookbook, Modern Creole, before we even left. I’ve cooked many of his recipes, and they’ve all been incredible.

Chef Cook’s kindness was also evident when Becky reached out to ask if he would sign a cookbook for me as a surprise. That’s another story, but Chef replied quickly and graciously, signed the book, wrote a wonderful message, and sent it out without hesitation.

We were excited to visit again at the beginning of August, but today we learned they will be closing their doors at the end of July. On a selfish note, I’m bummed we won’t be able to sit at that bar and enjoy that incredible food again.

More importantly, I hope Chef Cook and his family, the wonderful staff, and everyone associated with Gris-Gris move on to even bigger and better things. You all deserve it.

Thank you for the memories, the inspiration, and the unforgettable meals.

Please be sure to support your favorite local—or even not-so-local—restaurants whenever you can. @grisgrisnola @emcthecook #eatlocal #supportingsmallbusinesses #supportlocal #drinklocal #neworleans by @emcthecook
