@nycmayor Mamdani is disgracing the Italian community in New York City by skipping the Manhattan Columbus Day Parade on Monday. This is the same mayor who posted a photo of himself giving the middle finger to a Christopher Columbus statue in 2020 and wrote “Take it down.” He already snubbed the Columbus events in Brooklyn and Queens this weekend. Now he’s sitting out the biggest one. Italian-American leaders called it exactly what it is: disrespectful. Italy has its own history of dealing with a socialist dictator named Benito Mussolini. Italians want nothing to do with such men ever again. Mamdani can stay at home with his ignorance while real Americans in New York City celebrate Christopher Columbus with pride. We owe today’s America to Columbus and we’ll never forget. The federal holiday is still Columbus Day for a reason. The attempt to erase him fails because the facts are clear. His voyage opened the path that led to the freest and most prosperous country in history. That’s worth remembering, not apologizing for. Mamdani’s absence is a gift. The parade will go on without him, and the Italian community will celebrate it the way it always has.
YNW Melly’s Murder Retrial Is Not Playing Around: Judge Summons 500 Jurors and Bans Public Seating After Tampering Allegations Blogged by: Grace L. YNW Melly’s upcoming double murder retrial will look a lot different this time around, as a Florida judge has ordered heightened security, confidential juror information and major restrictions on public courtroom access following previous concerns about attempts to influence prospective jurors. According to a 19-page order filed October 13, 2026, Broward County Circuit Judge Martin S. Fein outlined new procedures for jury selection, which is scheduled to begin January 6, 2027. The changes include summoning 500 potential jurors, conducting preliminary screening in groups of 50, and narrowing the available candidates to a panel of 60 prospective jurors. Perhaps the biggest change involves who can actually sit inside the courtroom. The judge has ordered that no public seating will be available during jury selection. Instead, members of the public will be able to watch and listen to the proceedings through a live audio and video feed. The restrictions come as the rapper, whose legal name is Jamell Demons, prepares to face two first-degree murder charges for the October 26, 2018, killings of Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams. However, the new security measures are not simply about the rapper’s celebrity status. They follow troubling incidents surrounding earlier jury proceedings. Judge Fein cited previous inappropriate contact and attempted communication with prospective jurors, which required additional resources from the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Protecting juror identities and limiting physical access are intended to reduce the risk of outside interference while allowing the public to observe the selection process remotely. Concerns about jury interference have followed Melly’s case for years. In October 2023, prosecutors sought to conceal jurors’ identities after investigators reportedly discovered a notebook containing names and physical descriptions of individuals from Melly’s first trial inside the Miami home of his former codefendant, Cortlen “YNW Bortlen” Henry.
