Excited to present the official trailer for LEʻA a queer, Kanaka Maoli erotic short film written and directed by Kalani Axelrode (@kalaniaxe). The film is supported by Sound & Scene, the QTBIPOC Short Film Initiative from @newfest and @concord_originals.

Trailer by @uhleta

Inspired from a personal experience and a desire to challenge the ways Hawaiian women have historically been represented on screen, LEʻA offers an intimate and subversive exploration of sexuality, power, and the complexities of human connection.

Blending eroticism, suspense, and moments of unexpected tenderness, the film reimagines familiar narratives of desire through a distinctly queer, Kanaka Maoli perspective. What unfolds is a story that questions who holds power, who is permitted pleasure, and who gets to shape the images and stories of our bodies.

Set to “Breathe (2 AM)” by Anna Nalick, the most lesbian song of the fall.

To our cast, crew, collaborators, and community; mahalo nui loa for the care, creativity, and collective spirit that brought this vision to life. We are grateful to Lei Pua Ala, NewFest and Concord Originals for supporting our stories.

Full cast and crew credits in the comments x

✨Kairuholics, Your kairu baby is out of Rise & Fall, but now with her loved ones - Familia💕

One thing I want you all to know is that no matter how deeply people betray me, I will never let it change the person I am. I refuse to let someone else’s actions turn me into someone I was never meant to be. I will still choose kindness, still love wholeheartedly, still show up for people, and still have faith in the goodness of others. Not because I don’t know what betrayal feels like, but because I know exactly how it feels, and I would never want to make someone else feel that way. My kindness is not my weakness, and my loyalty is not my foolishness. Aur jo log mujhe samajh nahi paaye, I hope someday you get to know the person behind the personality you see on screen. I’m still learning, still growing, and still becoming the woman I dream of being.

I went into this show ready to be unapologetically myself, and I know I wasn’t perfect. Kabhi zyada loud thi, kabhi emotional, kabhi shayad aapko laga hoga ki Kaira, thoda toh shaant ho ja! 😂😭 But every emotion, every reaction, every fight and every laugh was a part of my journey. I never wanted to be a character people could easily predict; I wanted to be someone they could FEEL.
Eviction thoda disappointing zaroor hai, because Kaira haar maanne waalon mein se nahi hai. But if there’s one thing I’ve learnt, it’s that your journey isn’t defined by the day you leave a show, but by the impact you leave behind✨
To everyone who stood by me, defended me, criticised me with love, and continued to believe in me even when things got difficult — THANK YOU. Aapka pyaar meri sabse badi trophy hai. 🥹❤️

This is not the end of Kaira’s story, my loves. It’s just another plot twist. Picture abhi baaki hai, mere doston! 😉🎬❤️

I genuinely thought our relationship was equal before kids.

Then motherhood exposed how quickly the mental load, childcare, appointments, routines and sacrifices somehow became “mum’s job.”

I didn’t become the expert because I was born knowing more. I researched it. I learnt it. I showed up.

And dads can do the same.

If you both chose parenthood, you both chose the responsibility. 🤍
