Some conversations don’t just tell a story—they lay down a whole foundation.

Yesterday, I had the absolute honor of pulling up to a spot on a Bed-Stuy stoop with the incredible 93-year-young Miss Muriel Singleton and her brilliant, dynamic daughters, Dr. Gail Taylor and Sheila.

From Miss Muriel’s early days in 1930s Harlem—where her father turned the top-floor fire escape into a cozy summer sanctuary and a young Sidney Poitier was casually teaching drama at church—to decades of building a home, raising a family, and holding down the block in Brooklyn, this family is pure New York royalty. @bedstuystrong

We talked about sleeping in the park to beat the heat, sneak-riding bikes across the Williamsburg Bridge, learning how to fall gracefully at the Empire Roller Rink, and why culture, church, and community aren't just hobbies here—they’re the bedrock.

As Dr. Gail put it, Bed-Stuy is a "cauldron that when you go in it, you come out stronger". And as Sheila reminded us, long before the neighborhood got "fancy," the village was right here maintaining the culture, the history, and the love.

Trust me, you’re going to want to read about this masterclass in joy, resilience, and style (because yes, Miss Muriel is still the ultimate fashionista!).

Full interview coming soon to Stoop Stories! Stay tuned. 🎧✨ @stoop.stories #thepowerofaplantedseed💛💛💛💛💛
