This was the course I hadn’t played before and the one that probably gets the most mixed reviews but I thought it was fantastic in many ways. The holes playing over the main sand ridge like the iconic Sahara third hole with the famous ghost tree and initial reveal of the ocean might be one of the coolest hole anywhere or the Ocean hole seventh followed by the Biarritz eight. One of my favorites holes is the Alps sixteenth with an incredible green site perched between two large sand dunes.

Before playing, I thought the middle part of the routing through the “flat” areas might be a little mundane but these holes still have a lot of character and this is the place on the entire property that most represented true links. Walking from the Road hole to the Redan hole brought me back to the SE coast of England with the way the grasses and bunkering looked.

Doak and Urbina did a great job doing something a little different as the fourth main course built on property with the use of the iconic template holes and larger greens and the half way house overlooking the ocean had to be in the running for the best setting anywhere.
