Keep the bar close.

One of the biggest mistakes we see in the snatch is trying to keep the arms perfectly straight for too long.

Yes, your legs should do the work early, but once you’ve finished driving through the floor and reached full extension, it’s time to bend the elbows.

Think “elbows high and outside,” not “arms pulling up.”

Bending the elbows at the right time keeps the bar connected to your body and close to your torso. A bar that stays close is easier to move overhead, more efficient, and gives you a much stronger receiving position.

The goal isn’t to pull the bar higher—it’s to pull yourself under while keeping the bar as close to your body as possible.

Next time you snatch, focus on one thing:
Finish your leg drive, then let your elbows guide the bar close to your torso.

Save this for your next lifting session and tag a training partner who needs to see it. 💪
