Meet the Gas Station Soul Food King of Staten Island! ⛽️👑 One thing I hate is a gimmick. @nbsoul.love, a grab-and-go soul food spot located in the back of a Mobil gas station, is anything but that. The owner Naseem Barnett is as genuine as they come. He started looking at gas station kitchens because he was inspired by chefs doing similar things in the south—and besides, he couldn’t afford the high-prices of a brick and mortar restaurant. The result is an IYKYK gem of the highest order. Come 4pm, Naseem throws a fryer on top of the gas station’s deli grill and gets to work. Okay, so the concept is cool, but how’s the food? Simply put, the food is incredible. This was one of the best plates I’ve had, anywhere, in recent memory. Naseem fell in love with soul food through his mother’s cooking. But with Soul Love he puts his own spin on the classics—seasoning up the mac and cheese, adding oranges to the yams, and so on. The results is *chef’s kiss* 🤌 Run, don’t walk, to Soul Love if you know what’s good for you. And tell ‘em The Rec Team sent you! Long Live the Gas Station Soul Food King of Staten Island! 🙌 📍 Soul Love 1125 Richmond Terrace Ave, State Island #soulfood #friedchicken #blackbusinessowner #nycfood #blackfoodie
32 years ago today, Death Row Records released the soundtrack Murder Was the Case on October 18, 1994. Built around the Snoop Dogg short film of the same name, the project captured Death Row at the height of its influence and showcased the label’s signature West Coast sound. The soundtrack featured tracks from Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Tha Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg, Lady of Rage, and others, with standout records including “Murder Was the Case,” “Natural Born Killaz,” “What Would U Do?” and “21 Jumpstreet.” Murder Was the Case helped further cement Death Row’s dominance in ’90s Hip-Hop, blending cinematic storytelling, G-funk production, and a stacked roster of artists into one of the label’s defining releases. 🔊 💡Did You Know? The soundtrack reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200. #MurderWasTheCase #DeathRowRecords #SnoopDogg #OnThisDay #ThaDoggPound
