For years, I kept wondering why some women could survive corporate for decades… without burning out.

They weren’t less ambitious.
They weren’t working fewer hours.
And they definitely weren’t doing less.

Then I realized something.

They weren’t protecting their time better. They were protecting their energy differently. Here are 7 habits I stole from them:

1. They stopped treating every request like an emergency. Just because someone else creates urgency doesn’t mean you have to absorb it. Not every email needs an immediate reply. Not every Slack message deserves to interrupt your focus.

2. They stopped proving they were hardworking. They didn’t say yes to everything. They didn’t stay late just to be seen. They let the quality of their work speak louder than the number of hours they worked.

3. They stopped taking work home with them. The meeting ended. So did the mental conversation. No replaying what they should’ve said. No checking Slack while making dinner. No letting one awkward interaction ruin the entire evening.

4. They stopped rescuing everyone. When someone else’s poor planning became an emergency… they didn’t automatically make it theirs. Helping is generous. Constantly rescuing is exhausting.

5. They protected their calendar like it was part of their job. They blocked focus time. Declined unnecessary meetings. And understood that every “yes” costs them time, attention, and energy they’ll never get back.

6. They stopped chasing perfection. They knew when something needed excellence… and when “good enough” was the smarter decision. Perfection is one of the fastest roads to burnout.

7. They recovered before they needed to. They took breaks before they hit empty. They used their PTO. They rested without earning it first. Recovery wasn’t a reward. It was part of performing at a high level.

Burnout usually doesn’t happen because of one terrible week.

It happens because of hundreds of tiny habits that slowly drain your energy.

The women who thrive in corporate don’t necessarily have less on their plate. They’ve just learned what deserves their energy… and what doesn’t.

Yes to a lot of these - but most of prestigious corporate careers simply doesn’t allow to not bring work home with you
