Five years ago, a young girl with a smile, boundless energy and a lifelong love of dancing stepped into a yellow skivvy and into the hearts of families across Australia and beyond.

When Tsehay Hawkins joined The Wiggles in 2021, she was just 15 years old. Born in Ethiopia and raised in Australia, she had grown up dancing to the very songs she would one day perform, never imagining she would become part of the group that brought her so much childhood joy.

Already a world champion Latin dancer, Tsehay brought something uniquely her own, vibrant movement, infectious happiness, pride in her heritage and a warmth that could brighten any room.

But her impact reached far beyond the stage.

For countless children, particularly young Black girls and children from multicultural families, seeing Tsehay with her beautiful natural curls, proudly being herself, meant seeing a little piece of themselves in a world where that feeling isn’t always guaranteed.

She reminded young people that their stories, cultures, hair and identities deserve to be celebrated, and that their dreams belong on the stages too.

To Tsehay, thank you for five years of laughter, music, dancing and unforgettable memories. Thank you for helping children feel seen, heard, included and proud of who they are. The joy you’ve shared will stay with families for generations.

And to The Wiggles, a heartfelt thank you for opening doors, embracing representation and recognising how powerful it is when every child can see themselves reflected in the magic of childhood.

What a beautiful five years of sunshine, Tsehay. May your light continue to inspire wherever life takes you.
