Clearwing Hummingbird Moth at a wild bergamot bloom.
One of my favourite insects. A challenge to photograph but what an absolute thrill each and every time.
True fact: The proboscis is .75 to .83 ins. long which is approx. double the moth’s body length.
When they emerge their wings are covered in scales but those scales fall off after the first flight giving them the clearwing appearance.

Fantastic capture, Lori! I saw one at the lavender farm the other night, but couldn’t capture it. First time I see such creature! 💜
