One of the more offbeat entries into Alfred Hitchcock’s film canon, THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY ('55) takes full advantage of Vermont’s resplendency during peak foliage season as a murder mystery unfolds.

See it tonight as part of our TCM Special Theme, Sweater Weather.

That's history right there 🍾

New White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia has confirmed she never passed the bar exam, even though she has repeatedly referred to herself as a lawyer in public appearances and President Donald Trump described her as an attorney when announcing her appointment.

Zacharia, who graduated from Pepperdine University’s Caruso School of Law in 2011 with a juris doctor degree, sat for the California bar exam that year but did not pass, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter cited by The Wall Street Journal. She took the exam around the time she was planning a wedding and preparing to move to China with her then-future husband. Zacharia herself acknowledged the failure in an interview with conservative commentator Jack Posobiec after the reports emerged, saying she was distracted by the wedding and move and “didn’t think much” of the results. She added that she did not need to pass to do her work in China.

There is no public record of Zacharia being admitted to the bar in California, Texas, Washington, D.C., or any other U.S. jurisdiction under her married or maiden name (Black). The State Bar of California has stated it has no record of her ever being licensed there and that she never appeared on a California bar exam pass list.

When reporters asked her on the South Lawn earlier this week where she had passed the bar, Zacharia replied, “When I moved to China.” She later told The New York Times that she misheard the question over the noise and thought she was being asked where she went after law school. She has also said she consulted with Pepperdine’s president and others before appearing on cable news and was advised she could call herself a “lawyer” but not an “attorney” or “esquire.”

After law school, Zacharia moved to Beijing and worked from 2011-2013 as an associate on the international-practice team at Zhong Lun. Legal experts note that foreign nationals cannot sit for China’s bar exam or practice Chinese law; such roles for non-citizens are typically limited to supporting cross-border work or consulting. A partner at the firm told the Times the position was likely similar to a paid internship.

Madurai-based creator Veeramani’s request for Diwali sweets took an unexpected turn after he shared his address online, hoping to receive sweets from his followers. Instead, strangers reportedly flooded him with unwanted cash-on-delivery orders for expensive electronics and appliances, with one order involving a tanker reportedly worth ₹70 crore. The incident turned his small request into chaos as deliveries began arriving without his consent.

After the story gained attention, Instamart stepped in with a Diwali surprise for Veeramani. The platform sent him gifts without any cash on delivery ayment, including a mobile phone, PC, projector, induction cooker and ofcourse, the sweets he had originally asked for.

The gesture came through Instamart’s Quick India Movement Sale, turning a very unreal online episode into a marketing campaign. The incident also highlights how sharing personal details publicly can expose people to misuse, while Instamart’s response gave Veeramani a more cheerful ending to an otherwise unexpected Diwali experience.
