On Thursday, Gavin Williams of the @cleguardians threw what’s known as an immaculate inning. This is a rare feat in baseball in which a pitcher strikes out all 3 batters he faces in a single inning using exactly 9 pitches.
Williams became the 5th pitcher in franchise history to achieve this accomplishment, joining:
⚾️ Enyel De Los Santos in 2022
⚾️ Zach Plesac in 2020
⚾️ Carlos Carrasco in 2017
⚾️ Justin Masterson in 2014
Williams on Thursday ended up striking out 11 @twins batters over 7 innings, but that still wasn’t enough for Cleveland, who lost the game to Minnesota, 3-1, innings 12 innings.
He did, however, assume the American League lead in strikeouts, 156, with his stellar effort.
Thursday also marked Williams’ 10th career double-digit strikeout start, 6 of which have come this season, according to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. He’s struck out 11 batters in 3 straight starts and walked 0 in back-to-back outings.
