My Amapiano Journey 🇿🇦❤️🔥
Every journey starts somewhere. Mine started on Instagram during COVID.
Like many people around the world, I fell in love with Amapiano through my screen. I learned viral moves, took classes in Europe, and thought I understood the style.
Then I came to South Africa.
That’s when I realized I hadn’t just discovered a dance—I had discovered a culture. I thought I knew Amapiano only to realize I had only scratched the surface.
The more I learned from African teachers, dancers and communities, the more I understood that learning choreography is not the same as learning a dance style. Groove, musicality, history, intention and culture cannot be learned from a few viral clips alone.
Looking back at these videos, I can clearly see my growth. Not because I learned more steps, but because I started understanding why Amapiano moves the way it does.
This video isn’t about showing that I’m “good enough.”
It’s about showing that there is always more to learn.
If you truly love Amapiano, learn from the people who created it, continue to shape it, and live it every day. Support South African dancers. Take classes from South African teachers. Listen to the music. Learn the history. Stay curious. Stay humble.
Dance is universal.
Culture has roots.
Thank you to every South African teacher, dancer and friend who has welcomed me, corrected me, inspired me and reminded me that being a student is something to be proud of. ❤️🇿🇦
Learn from the source. Respect the culture. Keep the creators visible.
