I’m related to a small handful of people who were involved in the Salem Witch Trials. But I’m the direct descendant of Samuel Martin of Andover, someone who accused others of witchcraft then later signed a petition which essentially allowed the accused to return home on bond instead of suffering in the prisons as they awaited trial.

I sincerely hope I would not have followed in his initial footsteps. And I hope I would’ve signed the same petition without hesitation.
