This week the pendulum has swung from big work days to big moments of fun. I had a decade of denying myself of fun. It didn’t feel safe. I assumed that if I slipped off my path of discipline my whole world would fall apart. OCD took over parts of my life which made it hard to let go. But in my mid forties I’m allowing myself some fun. I still have a twinge of worry here and there but it feels a lot more balanced now. The self optimisation chat I often hear seems to be based purely on the aim of becoming the perfect, flawless optimised human who never veers off the track of self improvement. Sounds fucking boring to me. I also believe that we learn and grow the most after messy, challenging parts of life, not the ones where we are militant in how we live. Here’s to letting the messy bits of you free.
Life is a journey, and we never know who we might meet along the way. What amazes me most is how much kindness and generosity there is in this world. Some people come into our lives unexpectedly, bringing warmth, smiles and beautiful surprises. Not because they have to, not because they want something in return, but simply because giving makes them happy. And I believe that true generosity isn’t about how much we give, but about the heart behind it. Life keeps reminding me that the world is full of beautiful souls. And for that, I am endlessly grateful. 📸 Thank you, Jan @jan_de_vries_photography, for seeing beauty in the simplest moments and turning them into memories.
Thank you so much, to each and everyone who came and made the night all the more special ❤️❤️ Thank you for being there for me and being here with me❤️ Friends and friends like family ❤️ 👗 @soiewears 💎 @allurebymht_jewellery #zoyanasir #octoberbaby #libraseason #birthdaygirl #millenialandproud

Doing an Essential Mix is one of the real honors in my career. I got to do one back in 2011, and it still represents what I stand for and where I came from. Prepping for Superior Ingredients, it hit me that this was a completely different crowd than what I’m used to, and I needed to figure out what sort of journey I was going to go on. Right up until I walked on I was still figuring out what that meant. A few people had came up to me and told me they knew me from the Pacha New York days from 2010. Many associate me with that time - the golden era… But many don’t know I’ve been putting out records since 1995. So I decided to show everyone where my sound actually started and I went back to the roots, honoring New York. Armand Van Helden. Masters At Work. Todd Terry. David Morales as you can see in the video. The New York house that influenced my very early days. Somewhere in the middle of the set I looked up and thought, wow, this is another Essential Mix! The full set and journey is on YouTube now, link in bio. Superior Ingredients, thank you for a magical night and a perfect 2026 summer round off.
