Swipe to read more āž”ļø Searching for the words right now to put this one out there. Iā€™ll start by saying I donā€™t know why it took me so long to decide not to race. But I can tell you it is absolutely in my nature to be the toughest, strongest-willed mother Fā€™r on 2 wheels. That makes me stubborn, narrow-minded, & selfishly hopeful. To skip to the end for the current generation that canā€™t readā€¦ I broke my neck & itā€™s about as stable as my wife is after the newsā€¦ I have some numbness in one arm; all motor skills are fine, but surgery may be inevitable. The story for anyone who caresā€¦ Not sure what came first or if there is any significance at all, but this summer I was tossed over the bars & couldnā€™t escape the bike. I was pile-driven into the ground headfirst, had a concussion and a sprained neck; results came back with no bone damage. It never really felt 100% again, but most of my body isnā€™t 100% either, so I did what I do & pushed on. Fast forward to ISDE, it was no longer bothering me too bad, just tight. Day 4, I had a pretty big crash I donā€™t remember much of, which is odd since time usually slows down on the big ones; the details were faint. I definitely hit my head, but I got back on and kept moving. Afterward, Bill Davis said he heard my bike shut off, and thatā€™s when I ejected. Regardless, I knew I hit my head and had some numbness or shooting pain in my right hand, & my shoulder was feeling pretty jacked. Did what I could to make it through. Still, I was riding with a concussion & not feeling 100%. This is where, as a racer, I knew: no excuses, & damn sure, given my position with second in each series, nobody needs to know Iā€™m not 100%. & Iā€™m not exactly sure why this is racer logic! I was able to mend for a week; no concussion symptoms, felt as good as I could leading into Ironman, just a little nerve pain in my hand that stemmed from my neck. At this point, I knew what I needed to do; I was doing it. At the halfway point of the race, I would have been leading the points walking out of Crawfordsville. You guys know that storyā€¦ the part untold is that after refueling, I was pushing to get to Jordan. I knew what I needed to do. I finally got close
