All I Want To Be

🌎This month’s poem for the #firstlinepoets project, created by @emmajanepoetry. This month’s poem was inspired by the line “ the years pull me inward” given to me by the Whitman group’s wonderful curator @noellewritespoetry. This poem is about how significantly our life goals and ultimately our ideas of self can be shaped by our introspective journeys in life. We might think that our journey follows a similar path to those we’ve observed around us. We understand progress through external milestones and landmarks. And that’s why soul truth and self honesty can feel like navigating the dark. They can be uncharted and incredibly isolating, and developing maps for yourself, in other words learning how to understand yourself, is incredibly hard work. But by better knowing ourselves we can better understand what we want in life, and as our thoughts, actions, motivations and drive shifts, so does our reality.
