Hope

🌎This month’s poem for the #firstlinepoets project, created by @emmajanepoetry. This month’s first line was given to me by the lovely @solaceinraindrops.

Hope holds so much emotional weight and investment, and this can be both an anchor and a burden. This duality also means that hope is not bound by rules. It can rise, fall, die and grow again, like leaves on a tree. And just like the leaves that fall around a tree, even fallen hope can nourish the rebirth of new hope, provided one lets the rain of truth reach the roots, holds faith that time will give perspective and heal wounds, and continues working towards their dreams through every season. Importantly, hope is both a product and an inspiration for the growth that bridges the gap between reality and our dreams.

Hope you enjoyed and let me know how this resonates! by @jyotipoems

Left Behind

🌎September’s post for the #firstlinepoets project, created by @emmajanepoetry. This month’s line is from the last category of lines for this month: “Growth”. This poem is about truth and timing, and how sometimes, truth can tie together the things left incomplete. Hope you enjoy! by @jyotipoems

What Now

🌎 August’s poem for the #firstlinepoets project, created by @emmajanepoetry. This month’s first line was given by @inkthatspilled.

It is somewhat ironic, that what we love most in the world, can bring us the most pain if we were to lose it. It can seem like there is a trade off for feeling love; the deeper you love, the deeper your pain. However, love and pain in this case, come from the same place. They come from a place of meaning and truth that you can never lose. The things we love matter to us, they are family, connection, memories, support, sacrifice, laughter, and more, and while the pain of loss isn’t always something that can be erased, our hands can create shrines for the things that matter when we embody what we love and spread love to others. I hope you enjoy! ❤️ by @jyotipoems

All I Want To Be

🌎This month’s poem for the #firstlinepoets project, created by @emmajanepoetry. This month’s poem was inspired by the line “ the years pull me inward” given to me by the Whitman group’s wonderful curator @noellewritespoetry. This poem is about how significantly our life goals and ultimately our ideas of self can be shaped by our introspective journeys in life. We might think that our journey follows a similar path to those we’ve observed around us. We understand progress through external milestones and landmarks. And that’s why soul truth and self honesty can feel like navigating the dark. They can be uncharted and incredibly isolating, and developing maps for yourself, in other words learning how to understand yourself, is incredibly hard work. But by better knowing ourselves we can better understand what we want in life, and as our thoughts, actions, motivations and drive shifts, so does our reality. by @jyotipoems

Touch the Sky

🌎This month’s post for the #firstlinepoets project, created by @emmajanepoetry. This month’s line was given by @stillwords.poetry, thanks for the amazing first line!

We all know the power of collective action, however, we all have something in us that can enable positive change in our own special ways. This poem emphasizes how everyday, individual actions have the power to create an impact that is larger than our individual selves. In the poem, the “sky” is a concept to the bird, which is out of its reach, despite the fact that the bird flies in or beneath it everyday. But the bird never needed to touch the sky to make a difference, it needed to create momentum, be it a change in the wind, or making connections with the world around it. In this way, whether intentionally or not, a bird’s every little action carries that momentum forward, and as the bird continues its journey, that momentum could reach places beyond where the bird can fly itself. This speaks to the power of individual effort and action, but it also highlights the importance of being intentional with our actions, both big and small, as our messages are amplified. Eye Of The Storm

🌎This month’s poem for the #firstlinepoets project, created by @emmajanepoetry. For this month’s piece, I was inspired by a beautiful line from an amazing fellow poet @shefoundherpen: “Holding love, loss and longing in the same place” in her poem “I get tired…”. I find this line to be a perfect description of what grief becomes.

My poem describes this idea through one of my own experiences navigating grief. The poem describes how, sometimes, what feels right doesn’t always completely reflect your reality and how this can make finding a sense of stability and fulfillment very difficult, since you feel like you just don’t have what you need. This also makes it hard to fully experience any one emotion, whether gratitude, sorrow, longing, hurt, or happiness. One’s emotional state becomes a constant blurry mixture of them all. Let me know how this resonates with you and I hope you enjoy! by @jyotipoems

There is Magic In Her

🌎April’s poem for the #firstlinepoets project, created by @emmajanepoetry, is a re-imagining of an older poem created for the project. I chose a poem I wrote 3 years ago, using a first line from @breathwords. Thank you again for this amazing line!

Both of these poems are about inner magic. The first poem (swipe to read) was about how other people affect that expression of that magic. This second poem is about how the main character affects their own expression of magic through their limiting beliefs, assumptions, sense of worth and experience. This second poem gets at what this magic really is. It means you know how to pick up the pieces, make your day brighter, heal your wounds or even just feel connected to who you are. It is a sense of direction and guidance that will never lead you astray, because it is true to you. It’s a love, strength and authenticity that is nurturing and resilient through life’s ups and downs. Hope you enjoy and let me know how you resonate with this! by @jyotipoems

I Am Here

🌎This month’s poem for the #firstlinepoets project, created by @emmajanepoetry. This first line was given to me by @pamelamayauthor. Thank you for the beautiful first line!

Since I was young, I have found a sort of refuge in the moonlight. It has a way of making the world stand still. The sky is dark, everything hangs in limbo as the world sleeps, and the diffused, bright light envelops you in a protective embrace. In that embrace, you can be hopeful without doubt, you can imagine without restraint, you can feel safe without shame, you can feel at home with yourself. This poem is meant to describe this feeling of freedom. I hope you enjoy! Let me know how this resonates with you! by @jyotipoems

I Lost the Right to Know You

🌎The is my (late) post for January for the #firstlinepoets project, created my @emmajanepoetry. Thank you to @srazazel for this creative first line! This poem is about the insecurity behind control in a relationship. In the poem, the book is a symbol for individuality, be it hobbies, beliefs, studies and more. Even within close relationships, these parts of our loved ones don’t always need our input. For us, they are like art pieces that add to their character and color. And when we choose to study them, instead of judge or critic, we can learn more about others and form deeper connections. Let me know how this resonates! Enjoy! by @jyotipoems

What We Used To Be

🌎This month’s post for the #firstlinepoets, created by @emmajanepoetry. Thank you to @noellewritespoetry for this first line!

This poem is about how sometimes, the past keeps precious memories locked away because the characters change. And no matter how precious it was, you just can’t them back. The character in the poem is not letting go, they are standing still in moments, emotions, and circumstances that have already passed because it still holds something for them, even if it was abandoned by the other party.

The house key symbolizes a sense of belonging and feeling wanted, but the lack of this feeling begins to weigh on the character when the other party leaves, leaving them trapped but free, appreciative but empty, living in the bliss of the past and the bitterness of the present while trying to keep the two as far apart as possible. Let me know if this resonates and thanks for reading! by @jyotipoems

How to Be

🌎This month’s post for the #firstlinepoets project, created by @emmajanepoetry. Thank you to @wherelilacblooms for this first line!

The word alone can mean many things in our lives. It can mean isolation and exclusion, as well as independence and freedom. There are definitely negative sides to being or feeling alone, but no matter how strong of a community you have, learning how to be alone is necessary to find inner balance and in peace. In that sense, our journey “alone “ *is* our journey.

At the end of the day, every one of us is “alone “. We are all individuals with an individual experience, and coming to terms with that and stepping into that individuality is an essential foundation for creating within our communities and for the betterment of the world. by @jyotipoems

The Collective

🌎This month’s post for the #firstlinepoets project, created by @emmajanepoetry . Thank you so much to the lovely @anne.kinsey.writes for this amazing first line!

This poem is about a collective power, rooted in empathy and compassion. We all have different stories, but our lives are tangled in each other. When we support each other, we are stronger and sturdier, when we are more dispersed, we are less grounded. Our collective voice is more than a message, it is the support, time, patience, kindness, empathy and faith we apply to lift each other up. Hope you enjoyed and thank you for reading! by @jyotipoems
