I am sad that wherever I go, I feel the need to build home brick-by-brick. That belonging feels like something that can only exist in the shadows. That it is not just there— to grab without proving myself worth of it.

I fear I have done all of this in search of a feeling I have been chasing since I was a kid, and in my youthful desperation, I neglected to face the fact that I was the one convincing myself of my own non-belonging.

Perhaps I’m leaving now to do it all again, somewhere else, to pour cement into a hole as it caves in and call it foundation, to set fires in houses made of wood and wonder why it all keeps burning down.
