For something a little different… Working on my writer and director look book again today I came across one of my favourite directing memories.

My last short film, shot in England, won Best Scenography, featured an original score by the legendary @sachaputtnam, and starred @jon_campling, known to many as one of the Harry Potter Death Eaters.

Like many of my projects, it started with curiosity. An afternoon in Ealing digging through old newspapers with Matt Tyrrell turned into a screenplay inspired by forgotten stories, history, and period costume. Trying on ancient dresses started to bring the newspaper clippings to life. From there, I had the privilege of writing and directing an incredibly talented cast and crew, with the support of @bath_filmoffice while filming in the beautiful city of Bath.

Time has flown since then. Looking back reminds me how much I love building worlds, leading creative teams, and bringing stories from the page to the screen.

I’m dusting off a few scripts and reminding myself of how it feels to “play.” Here’s to following curiosity, taking creative risks, and telling stories that stay with people.❤️

The dresses before the script is the part I keep rereading. Research stays flat until something in it has a body. No wonder scenography is what won.
