These are from the Puskola (Ola leaf) manuscript workshop at Akurugraphy exhibition from yesterday. Hemmathagama Piyadassi Thero is a fantastic scholar and a modern authority on the subject. His opening lecture is one of the best that I’ve ever listened to. Effortlessly weaving deep historical and empirical research, Buddhist and Pali chantings, lived experiences into narrative style close to බණ (a Buddhist sermon done in Sinhala) He founded and runs the only institution dedicated for preserving this craft with the vision of developing this living tradition as a widespread craft beyond a mere Buddhist tradition. He runs the only accredited course on Palm leaf manuscript writing in Kurunegala.

If you missed this talk + workshop and would like to like to see him again in Colombo in a such event please comment so we know there’s more demand. And reach out to them if you like to be a part of the six month long hybrid weekly course on Palm writing.
