South Africa has long symbolized resilience, reconciliation, and the hope of a more just future. That’s why seeing reports of xenophobic violence against fellow Africans is so deeply heartbreaking.
The ideals of unity and freedom championed by Nelson Mandela remind us that dignity and humanity should never stop at a border.
Travel has taught me that Africa’s greatest strength is its people, cultures, and diversity. It has also taught me that difficult conversations are necessary if we are to move toward healing.
My thoughts are with everyone affected by violence, fear, and displacement. May compassion prevail over division, and may we continue striving for an Africa where every person is treated with dignity and respect.
