I’ve been honored to have a close relationship with Minnesota-based @hedwheels for more than 25 years. Tratando de ser una mejor colombiana 🇨🇴 Episodio 1: Carne encebollada con tomate, plátanos maduros y patacones.

It’s time! I’m officially learning how to cook all the dishes I grew up loving. And we’re starting with something super easy because, bueno, por algo se empieza.

Carne encebollada con tomate

Ingredients:

● Thinly sliced steak
● 1 tsp cumin
● 1 tsp salt
● Black pepper, to taste
● Paprika
● Worcestershire sauce
● Garlic, minced
● 1 onion, sliced
● Tomatoes, chopped
● ½ cup beef broth (I used chicken broth!)
● Oil for cooking

Instructions:

1. Season your steak with cumin, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. Let it marinate for 10 minutes.
2. Heat a little oil in a skillet and sear the steak for about 30 seconds per side. Remove and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, add your sliced onions and cook for about 10 minutes until softened.
4. Add the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, then add your tomatoes. Let everything cook until the tomatoes soften and release their juices.
5. Pour in ½ cup of broth and let the sauce simmer for a few minutes.
6. Add the steak back into the skillet and let it finish cooking in the sauce until cooked through.

Plátanos maduros

Peel and slice ripe yellow plantains diagonally. Fry in oil over medium heat until golden and caramelized on both sides. Remove and sprinkle with a little salt if desired.

Patacones

1. Peel green plantains and cut into thick pieces.
2. Fry until lightly golden and softened.
3. Remove and flatten each piece using two board or if you want a pataconera or the bottom of a plate.
4. Fry again until golden and crispy.
5. Sprinkle with salt and serve immediately.

Served everything with arrocito blanco, cilantro y aguacate. qué delicia 🤤
